Fondation Folon

Reservations are only required for activities, workshops and visits led by a Foundation animator.   20 minutes south of Brussels, in the wonderful Solvay park, the Ferme du Château de La Hulpe houses the Fondation Folon. It presents more than forty years of creation, in a lively and original scenography imagined by the Belgian artist, Jean-Michel Folon (1934-2005). He opens the book of his life to us. Through the pages, the visitor discovers the multiple facets of his art and his universe among the 350 works on display: watercolors, serigraphs, engravings, posters, diverted objects, stained glass, sculptures and optical effects enliven an interactive journey: we enters a huge book, one enters the head of the Blue Man, one gets lost in games of mirrors, one discovers endless posters and the secrets of the artist's workshop, to end the journey under a myriad of stars. After your visit, stroll through the 227 hectares of greenery of the Solvay park, with varied landscapes, bordered by ponds and inhabited by remarkable flora and fauna.

Hôtel de Ville de Bruxelles - Tapis de Fleurs

This huge carpet of begonias covers the Grand-Place every two years. The cut flowers are arranged directly on the pavement of the square by specialist horticulturalists from Ghent. The resulting pattern of colours can be viewed from the balcony of the town hall. Every other summer, on the weekend of August 15th, the Flower Carpet offers a chance to stroll across the Grand-Place, a jewel of Gothic architecture, to inhale the fragrant scent of the begonias and admire its details. This extraordinary spectacle is made complete by a visit to the balcony of the Town Hall, which offers a wide-angle view of the work. A musical theme is especially composed for each edition. A concert is given on the Grand-Place every evening and accompanies a magnificent sound and light show.

Why we recommend these places
An exceptional event because it only lasts 3 days every 2 years around mid-August (August 15 to 18, 2024). A gigantic carpet of flowers covers the Grand Place in Brussels, for a breathtaking and unique result each time, not to be missed!

Atomium

The Atomium was not intended to survive beyond the 1958 World's Fair. However, at the dawn of the 2000s, the uniqueness and highly symbolic character of the building resulted in a major restoration. Since its reopening and the introduction of a new cultural and tourism project [2006]: one that many do not hesitate to call the most Belgian of monuments not only rediscovered its place as an international symbol and icon but also became the most popular attraction in the Capital of Europe. In addition to being the most popular attraction in the capital and providing the most magnificent view of the city of Brussels, the Atomium offers an entirely astounding and surreal ride through its interior spaces and volumes which alone makes a visit worth it.
Capucine & Aurore Debry
Why we recommend these places
The Atomium, emblematic symbol of the city of Brussels, was built in 1958 for the Universal Exhibition. Beautiful day and night, it offers an incomparable view of the city of Brussels. A must, open every day between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Why we recommend these places
The Bertinchamps brewery is a great family project. The visit to the brewery is very well explained and allows you to learn more about the beers brewed on site. Complete your experience with a meal in their seasonal restaurant with fresh produce, with a purchase in their local store or with a stroll in the fields around the Brewery!
